The Mausoleum on Charcoal Island. This ammunition magazine was used as a tomb for 30 some Alaska Natives who died of tuberculosis at the sanitarium on Japonski Island (Now the Native hospital SEARHC). This bunker is going to be destroyed, and all the remains inside will be moved, in a few years when the taxiway is extended to the length of the runway.

I took these photos in January, 2000.

Ammunition Magazine turned Mausoleum

Notice the runway to the left of the bunker.
